Edo Govt Demolishes Building Linked to Suspected Ritual Activities, Seals Another Property in Uromi

The Edo State Government has pulled down a building allegedly used for criminal activities, including suspected cultism and ritual-related operations, in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state.

The demolition, carried out by security operatives under the state’s ongoing security crackdown, also saw another nearby property sealed as authorities intensified efforts to rid communities of criminal hideouts.

The operation was conducted under the government’s special security campaign, codenamed Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists, with personnel from the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies taking part.

Speaking during the exercise, Secretary of the Edo State Security Squad, John Izegaegbe, said the action followed intelligence reports and findings from security investigations in the area.

According to him, operatives who stormed the property located in the Ebhoijie area of Uromi made a disturbing discovery after recovering the decomposing body of a security guard identified as Mildah Dalandi.

Preliminary findings reportedly indicated that the corpse had remained inside the building for about one month before it was discovered.

Residents had reportedly alerted authorities on June 2 after noticing a persistent foul smell coming from the premises, prompting security agencies to launch an investigation.

Izegaegbe disclosed that individuals linked to the property are currently at large but have been directed to report to the Uromi Police Division or the Area Command within 72 hours.

He said the move would allow investigators to obtain their statements and determine their level of involvement in the circumstances surrounding the death.

Government Sends Strong Warning

Authorities said the demolition was in line with Edo State’s tough stance against properties allegedly used for kidnapping, cult-related violence and other criminal activities.

Officials maintained that property owners have a responsibility to know how their buildings are being used, warning that the government will not hesitate to take action against facilities found to be aiding crime.

The sealing of the second property, they noted, forms part of measures aimed at preventing criminal elements from using residential areas as operational bases.

Residents Urged to Stay Alert

Meanwhile, the Edo State Security Corps has called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, unusual activities and unknown occupants within their communities.

The agency stressed that timely information from members of the public remains crucial in preventing criminal networks from taking root and ensuring safer neighbourhoods across the state.

The latest action underscores the Edo State Government’s renewed push to tackle insecurity and dismantle structures allegedly linked to criminal operations.
