Motorists and residents in Ifako-Ijaiye area of Lagos State will have to adjust their travel plans as the state government has announced a temporary traffic diversion for the reconstruction of drainage infrastructure along Baale Animashaun Road.
As reported by RealtyBox Media Online, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday.
According to Osiyemi, the diversion is necessary to facilitate the construction of a new culvert under an ongoing drainage reconstruction project designed to tackle persistent flooding challenges in the area.
He explained that the project will help channel stormwater runoff from Adfarm Estate, Adson Street and neighbouring communities, ultimately improving drainage systems and reducing the risk of flooding.

Get in TouchThe commissioner revealed that construction work is scheduled to commence on June 15 and will run for approximately eight weeks, during which traffic flow along the affected corridor will be significantly impacted.
Roads Affected and Alternative Routes
Osiyemi announced that motorists travelling from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway towards Baale Animashaun Road will not be able to access the road directly throughout the construction period.
To ease movement, the government advised drivers to use alternative routes, including:
- Ijaiye Bus Stop Junction through Agbado-Ijaiye Road, connecting to Alakuko Road.
- Jendor Junction through Alhaji Ganiyu Road.
- Ajegunle-Ilo Bus Stop via Adetiba Street, linking Fagbeyiro Abayomi Street and Fola Azeez Street.
Government Issues Advisory to Motorists
The transportation commissioner appealed to road users to cooperate with traffic management officials and strictly comply with traffic signs placed around the construction zone.
He noted that adherence to the diversion arrangements would help minimise congestion, ensure safer movement for commuters and allow contractors to complete the drainage project within schedule.
The latest intervention forms part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to strengthen drainage infrastructure across flood-prone communities and improve road safety for residents.
